Book Review: Pulse by Julian Barnes

So while considering using enigin and their services I decided to take a break and write this review of the book ‘Pulse’ written by Julian Barnes. Since 2004 Julian Barnes has been giving us some wonderful stories full of the negative feelings of mankind like repentances, humiliations and failures and in the last book we found the fear of the end of life and the frustration about the transition to old age inspired by his own life.
In the last book “Pulse” we can find the shadow of the death of his wife. The darkness chases the plots of all the stories in this book. Sometimes the theme is death or divorce, and sometimes it is the fragility of relationships o the deceitfulness of friendships. It is a long sad adventure into the dark alleys of human minds. Not so interesting to hear all these but its Julian Barnes. His ability to portray the emotions with a beautiful touch of reality always proves him the best at what he does.
The stories are arranged in a beautiful form, all tied together by a central story. A dinner party in which the stories of some middle class people comes out with happy expressions. The stories represent the ethical values of the middle class people in an unbiased open manner. Instead of being apologetic or remorseful the characters are happy here. The main feeling which leaded in all this is the happiness of the middle class because of the secured position and status they have. The stories are too open to be criticized. So it will be lame trying to criticize the morality or the openness of the stories. Pulse may seem to be ‘raw’ to some readers, but if you can reach the emotional undercurrents, you will be carried to the last page.
